I have recently begun working on my next painting, Rugged Grand Tetons! After finishing the drawing layout, I completed the sky and am now working on the mountains. I have been excited to paint this image for quite awhile and am loving how it is coming together so far. I have a ways to go, but it is coming along faster than l expected. Keep an eye on Facebook and Instagram to see some additional work in progress photos. This will be the second painting in my National Park series. When completed, it will be available in four sizes.
I have been busy working to complete my next painting. I am trying to get it finished in time for my upcoming show, but only time will tell if I make it in time. I still have a ways to go, but it is coming along really well. This will be the fourth of 4 paintings in my Yosemite Park series. When completed, it will be available in four sizes.
Well, I am very happy to report that I am getting extremely close to completing my newest painting Luminous Misty Falls. There have been so many colors to mix with all the differences in sunlight and shadow and dry and wet areas. This painting of Vernal Falls, which lies below Nevada Fall, will be the second painting in my Yosemite Park series, and the first to bear the Roycroft mark. Here is a sneak peek of this relaxing and dramatically lit summer scene. I hope to have it finished in a couple weeks.
I have been very busy working on Luminous Misty Falls, my painting of Vernal Falls in the Yosemite Valley. So far, I have completed a little over a third of the painting with the foreground waterfall and the trees still needing to be finished. It has taken me some time to get myself back into my paintings after losing my father, but I have finally been able to reengage in my artwork. I hope to have this newest painting finished near the end of March, first of April.
Here is a sneak peek of a section of the middle-ground, background and sky from this latest painting. I used a late afternoon sky filled with golden clouds to emphasize the glowing mist of the waterfall spray. I am looking forward to seeing this summer setting alongside my spring themed Stunning Liberty Cap.
It has been a very challenging year so far, which has greatly reduced the time I have had available to work on some of the new painting ideas that I have planed to complete this year. Life can sometimes deal us cards we were not expecting and are not always happy to embrace. This year the reality of aging parents has become my unexpected truth as I have had to watch the people I love the most going through some very difficult hardships. They have been my obvious priority, however, recently I have been able to return to my next painting. My new painting, Stunning Liberty Cap, is finally getting very close to completion and I am expecting to have it finished in the first half of June.
There have been quite a few unexpected interruptions that have unfortunately delayed my progress on my current painting Stunning Liberty Cap. However, I just completed placing the final touches on the storm clouds for my latest illustration this morning. I am now beginning the painting of the monolithic Liberty Cap as it rises above Nevada Fall which cascades into the surrounding trees. Stunning Liberty Cap is the first painting in my new four part Yosemite Park series.
I just finished sealing the drawing on the board for my newest painting, Stunning Liberty Cap, and after it dries I will begin the painting process. I have worked out my color scheme and am in the process of mixing the initial colors for the sky. I always start with a detailed drawing, and then I begin placing in a wash for the sky. I will not start making it opaque until after the sky is all blocked in. The drawing really helps when I start blocking in all the colors for each area of the middle-ground and foreground. Lastly, I will add the outlining of the various layers in order to get the depth that I am looking for in the painting. Check back to see the progress, as time permits.
I am so pleased to inform you that I have just completed my newest illustration, Glowing Monterey Shore. This painting has taken a lot longer to complete than I had originally intended, but I believe the result is well worth the wait. Now that it is finished, it is time to photograph my painting so that I can create the prints. I am ready to clean up all the palettes and brushes that I have been using, and I went through quite a few brushes on this one. My latest illustration will be available for purchase very soon. Check my store to see the availability.
It has been an extremely busy time for me with a lot going on, which has caused my latest painting to take more time than usual to complete. However, I believe it will be well worth the wait. I am very happy to announce that I am only about a week away from finishing the painting on my newest illustration. Growing up in California, Monterey is one of my favorite California locations, and this painting may be my favorite painting to date. My newest painting...Glowing Monterey Shore will arrive in a horizontal format, the same dimensions as Radiant Yosemite Valley.
