Spring Passes, Giving Way to Summer

July 14, 2015

After working relatively non-stop on paintings for the past year, I decided I needed to take a bit of a break before starting up my next painting.  When finished, Tranquil Summer Reflection will be the third in my Seasonal Landscape series.  I figured I needed to get the painting going before the new school year starts up again during the first part of August.  I really wish summer lasted as long as it seemed to, when I was a kid.

Paying homage to the woodcuts of the Arts & Crafts era and the inspiring beauty of nature.

After attending the Pasadena Heritage Craftsman Showcase I have modified my plans for the paintings I plan to focus on this next year.  I am also planning to attend the National Arts & Crafts Conference at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina.  Subsequently, I am planning to paint a couple paintings focused on North Carolina, beginning with Cascading Triple Falls.

But first, I am going to paint the second painting in my Yosemite Park series, Luminous Misty Falls. What follows below is the title and write up for my next illustration.

Luminous Misty Falls

Located below the granite dome of Liberty Cap lies 317 feet of breath-taking Vernal Fall.  Originally given the name Yan-o-pah or “little cloud”, it was renamed Vernal.  Fed by the Merced River just downstream from Nevada Fall, the waterfall runs all year long, although can split into multiple strands by the end of summer as the volume of water is reduced.  Continual spray bathes the lush foliage and paths below the fall giving rise to the name, Mist Trail.
